(Isa 9:6-7)  For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace.
    Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from the [latter] time forth, even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (The Amplified)
This year has been a roller coaster for many of us.  The effect of the Kenyan elections in December 2007 carried over for months after 2008 had began.  The financial markets plummeted and so did the dollar.  The Kenya shilling lost ground against a loosing dollar! Fuel prices hit KSh.100 per litre and then dropped to KSh75 (by today..in some gas stations).  And today, no gasoline.  Had to park the car and walk around looking for a gas station with gas!  And then there was drama in our church…and others across the country.  I’ll miss 2008…but again, maybe not.
In spite of it all, God was in control.  I don’t need evidence to believe that.  It’s one of those facts that are inescapable.  The one thing I need to see 2009 more than ever is more of God’s control in my life.  The biggest tragedy will be to find, at the end of 2009, that God has less control in my life than He had at the beginning.  For you see, Heaven is forced to return to an election everyday many times a day in each one of us.  The winner of the election determines the directions we take in the decisions we make.  The more Satan wins in these ‘elections’ the more his kingdom, his government increases because he acquires a majority in the house (for we are the temple…).  The more God wins and our decisions are directed by Him and by His Word, the more His Government increases in our lives.  I need to see to it that the election is fixed in God’s favor.  Everytime.  It may be hard but it is possible.  He fixed the fight between the devil and I (I checked at the back of The Book, WE WIN), it’s the least I can do.  God rules!
My commitment to God remains the same,
Philipians 3:10  ”For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [[a]which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death…” (The Amplified)
I will pursue growth in my spirit man and cede more territory than ever to the Kingdom of Heaven in 2009.  I want to be more like Him.

The concept of total surrender to God is not foreign to me. There are even books about it.  The practice is another thing.  I am constantly struggling with surrender.  Ceding complete control to Jesus would be exciting and radical for me, despite the fact that I live a more surrendered life today than ever.  Radical because there exist those scenarios where a little embellishment (translated lie) would do no apparent harm and save face.  I would have to say to people, ‘I am sorry, forgive me.  I did not do what you asked because I forgot the moment I left the room.’

Easy to say to your friend.  Easy to say to your boss?

I sense following Jesus radically would be a true adventure.  I have caught glimpses of this in some areas of my life and a life completely devoted to following Christ would surely be nothing less.  It would certainly be expensive for me as an individual.  My peers may label me and probably shun me from their networks (networks which are invaluable in business).

It is true.  God is not so concerned about my reputation as He is concerned about my character. If my desire is to be real deal I have to be willing to surrender my reputation and gain great character instead.
